The Ketchikan Performing Arts Center is becoming a reality! We are now in the heat of the Capital Campaign phase of the Performing Arts Center project. The place is set. We bought the old Elks/Fireside building on Main Street a couple years ago, and we’re ready to build. An exciting floor plan has been designed, the economy is recovering, and we’re ready to go! The flexible design will be perfect for traditional theater, theater in the round, cabaret, meetings, classes, visitor events, school events, rehearsals, overflow conventions, weddings, you name it! We want to thank the City, Borough, and State for the funds to purchase the hulking shell. Now we need some more support. Rasmusen is willing to donate a million dollars to the project, and we just need to get the City and Borough to step up and provide the remainder of the matching funds to qualify for the grant. If anyone is interested in checking the old girl out, we will be giving tours of the building on Saturday during the Blueberry Festival. If you have a story to share, we will be taking written and recorded recollections for posterity, and would love to hear form you. Tours will be at 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm on Saturday. We’re right next to the Fire Department, so pick up a Kabob, and come see us! If you are unable to stop by on Saturday, you can see plans and pictures at www.facebook.com/KetchikanPAC or email KetchikanPAC@live.com for more information.
