Too Many Lifeguards

Dear Readers,

I do not normally write any responses in the SitNews letters, I just read them. However, this time I want to make a comment.

Sara, our daughter, was a lifeguard for the pool for quite some time. She is in college and took a different job this summer, closer to home. I must say, a pool never has enough lifeguards.

She was a really good lifeguard. On a couple of occasions, she shared with me her experiences of feeling uneasy and having to speak up to a child/parent because the parent was not watching their child at the pool. This puts the child at such a high risk for drowning. This is such a scary situation, even for a trained professional.

I have not had the opportunity to visit our new pool. I want to applaud the lifeguards and thank them for keeping our citizens of Ketchikan, both young and older, SAFE! Keep up the good work and thank you!
