Happy campaigning, round two By A. M. Johnson August 27, 2014
Wheeee, the first stage of the election cycle has passed. Exciting was it not? In speaking with other voters prior to and yet today, choices were not easy in some of the races. Many of us have known all three of the Republican House candidates and choosing was difficult. As there was not an opposing candidate of any depth, the "Independent" had a free day. All and all the outcome provides a continuance of District 36 coming General election. How frustrating for the Democrats that they chose not or could not field a qualified candidate. On the surface it is understandable, yet having a three way race would have been interesting. I extend my thanks to the unsuccessful ladies and Ms.Kline. Thanking them for taking on the challenge expending personal funds, family time and tons of energy. The thanks are extended to all the field folks who worked to champion their candidate. Politics is NOT a friendly arena to play in, take it from me. Been there, done that. If there is any little bit that was learned it was how fickle things can change an outcome. I recall during one of my campaign efforts, a voter wanting to offer advice said What ever you do promise them ice cream! I appeared perplexed and the voter then said that he used that from a Readers Digest story of years past where a fifth grade class was holding mock elections. The two candidates for class president were allowed 5 minuets to make their case. Johnny stood tall and stated a platform of some length including longer recesses, less detention, covered playground, classes outside when sunny and such. At the end of the five minutes of which he used them all, he sat down. Suzy then stood up and stated clearly: Vote for me and I will give you Free ice cream. and sat down. Suzy won in a landslide. Well I didn't ever use the analogy in practice, sure seems a reasonable approach particular in this day and age of Me Me Me ism everybody want free ice cream. (Come to think of it pie wouldn t be a bad idea either-Just saying) Happy campaigning. A.M. Johnson About: "Been in the elected trench a couple of rounds."
