Vote Mitchell, Plute and Staples for City Council

Dear Editor,

I feel quite strongly that Ketchikan sits on a precipice. We can either change toward responsible governance with fiscal responsibility or we can continue as usual to our imminent fiscal detriment.

We have to rid ourselves of the "spend to oblivion and screw the general taxpayer" mindset promilgated by the parasitic city manager and his minions on the council.
The taxes paid by the local taxpayer are not only inflated (I would love to sell my house for its 'assessed' value! The last one I sold was over assessed by 25%). but wasted in large measure. I would be very surprised if we get a return of 20¢ on the dollar. Although I would guess Amylon's business 'friends' do far better!

I have heard Amylon's intelligence questioned. I don't know about that but I do know if an intelligent person has no morals and wants to screw you you will be well and truly done. It is one area where efficiency seems to be in prevalence.

I would be more inclined to attribute the lack of intelligence to the council. They seem to lack the ability to reign in "King Karl". They have had their chance and failed. Now it is time to correct the situation. October 7th is very near.

I have heard and agree a recall is needed along with firing Amylon. That has not yet gotten started but what we do have now is an opportunity to vote for three candidates. These three could get the ball rolling and send a very powerful message to the remaining syncophants that 'business as usual' is off the table.

I have stated before and I stand by what I said that ultimately your personal property is forfeit should the community go into unrecoverable bankruptcy. That includes businesses as well--all real property in the geographical boundaries. Yes an appointed administrator can proscribe lesser sanctions but the property can be auctioned.

You and your property will be held accountable for the malfeasance of elected and appointed officials in the end. Or you and your property can reap the benefits of efficient governance. The choice is yours to make most especially beginning with this municipal election on October 7.

Business owners do you really think 8% and going up sales taxes are helping your bottom line?? Wake up.

This is far too important to play the first grade game of who is the most popular for class president or who would be the most entertaining etc. We need to have a council that treats public money as they would their own private accounts. We need to have council members who do their homework and bring solutions to problems. We need to have a council that is part of the community not one that thinks they are above it.

With the above in mind I hope that voters will cast their ballots for Amanda Mitchell, Ed Plute and Kevin Staples.

I believe they bring a degree of common sense, healthy scepticisms, openness, basic fiscal intelligence, problem solving, and non-selfish behavior not seen for many years in local government.

I would encourage those interested in correcting our fiscal crisis to examine the above mentioned candidacies. We need responsible leadership. We need to divest ourselves of the culls who have wasted our taxes.

It would be best to begin regime change before Amylon wastes money needed for water delivery on his personal museum project. So this election is crucial don't skip it just because it never changed in the past.

See you at the polls in two weeks.

Sincerely,

Douglas J. Thompson
