State Troopers notified the Forest Service's Ketchikan Ranger District about the slide near mile post 1.6 at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday.

Forest Service officials estimate that approximately 10,000 yards of debris is blocking the road and it will take nearly a week to clear the road and clean up the area.

In the interest of public safety, Forest Service officials encourage people to avoid the area until the clean up is completed. The Forest Service has set up temporary road barricades and will notify the public as soon as the road is re-opened.
