White Cliff -Why a Partnership of Senior and Arts Groups?
By James A. Van Altvorst

Thursday

Why are the seniors and the arts organizations working together on the White Cliff Center Project? The simple answer is "synergy", the benefit we enjoy when things working together produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects.

White Cliff Center synergy begins with enhanced potential to develop the funding necessary to renovate the building. Propositions 1 and 2 will not provide all the money necessary to complete the renovation or to maintain and operate the building over the long term. Grants will be necessary to develop a full design and construction funding package. The partnership adds dimension and credibility to the project that will enable the community to attract the required grant funds. Further, the individual organizations will each pay rents that will offset a major share of the cost of operating and maintaining White Cliff Center. The combined resources of all partners, working together in the White Cliff Center, make this project feasible and possible, something not possible if the organizations were not working together for the project.

But, the benefits of the partnership go far beyond funding for construction and for annual operation and maintenance. The partnership between Ketchikan Senior Services, Ketchikan Theater Ballet, First City Players and the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council represents community in the broadest and best sense. As neighbors in the building, each partner will benefit from the others activities. By working together in the White Cliff Center, the senior and arts partners delivering their individual programs and services will produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects. The people they serve will benefit directly; programs will improve and diversify. Through such synergy we will all benefit!

Please join a broad cross section of Ketchikan's voters on October 3 who will be taking an important step toward building a better Ketchikan. Vote YES on Ballot Propositions 1 and 2 on October 3.

Sincerely,

James A. Van Altvorst
