South Point Higgins Beach

We are fortunate to live in beautiful Southeast Alaska. Ketchikan is a wonderful place to live for many reasons. Maybe we don't all see eye to eye on some issues, but when necessary we pull together for a common cause. I am writing to encourage all of you to join me in a common cause that will lend to the health and happiness of our community.

On October 7th we will be asked to vote on whether or not the Borough should purchase South Point Higgins Beach as a recreational area. South Point Higgins Beach is not public land. The 4.5 acre beach is owned by Mental health Land Trust and can be sold at any time. If the Borough does not buy this beach it will be lost to us forever.

We have a chance to preserve a beautiful area not only for current families living in Ketchikan, but for future generations. Foresight is not always a clear view, but hindsight is usually 20/20. Lets have the foresight to set aside a nice beach for everyone to enjoy instead of looking back 10 years from now and wishing we had. Please vote yes on proposition 1. A yes vote will not increase your taxes.
