First of all, Mitchell and Patrick have been close friends since they met at Whitecliff school back in the mid 1990's. They were true "bros" as Pat would say. And we considered Pat as a member of our famliy because of all the time he had spent at our house over the years. Whether it was the time camping out on our boat, or just camping out at our house. So this friendship wasn't conjured up out of convenience for this particular crime.

In fact, a large part of Pat's valedictorian speech was about Mitch, according to Pat's father, Phil. The boy's made a bad mistake and they had a plan to get out of it. They were going to pay Chase Hoyt back with the money from their fishing jobs. Plan #1. Pat was going to Neet's Bay, and Mitch was going up to Bristol Bay. With their money they were going to pay Chase back. Plan #2. They get caught, charged with a felony, Mitch said he would take most of the fall, since he didn't have the superlative reputation in the commumity that
Patrick had, and didn't have as much to lose. They thought Pat would end up getting some commumity work service hours, and maybe have to pay some restitution.

They both knew that after $500 it would be a felony, but they both kept withdrawing money. As of now, Chase has forgiven Mitchell and they have made amends.
