Division of Elections Certifies
2010 Primary Election Ahead of Schedule
September 15, 2010
Wednesday
Juneau, Alaska - The bi-partisan State Ballot Review Board has
completed a thorough review of the 2010 Primary Election results.
With the review completed, the Director of the Division of Elections,
Gail Fenumiai, announced today that the election has been certified.
"I am very pleased that the Division and the State Ballot
Review Board were able to complete the post-election processes
ahead of the targeted certification schedule of September 17th,"
said Fenumiai.
As part of the election certification process, the Division also
performed a hand-count verification of 5% of the ballots cast
at the polls in each of the state's 40 house districts. This
verification is done to ensure the election results are accurate.
The hand-count of the 2010 Primary Election ballots verified
that the state's ballot tabulation system accurately counted
and reported election results.
The Division received a request for two election recounts. A
recount of all ballots will be performed for the House District
12 and 18 Republican races. The winners of the recounts will
advance to the General Election ballot.
The recounts for District 12took place Tuesday and the recount
for District 18 will take place on September 16, 2010.
