HB 1408, sponsored by Rep. Don Young, has been put on the suspension calendar in the House. This will allow the house to vote on it as if it is not controversial. Many communities in Southeast Alaska have spoken clearly that this bill would be devastating to their futures. Allowing a private corporation to use cultural lands, old growth timber sites, and good tourism and energy development sites, without further community input would be devastating to communities on Prince of Wales Island.
