(R to L): Ketchikan Volunteer Fire Department chairperson Timothy Cook, Fire Chief Frank Share and Wells Fargo Southeast Alaska District Manager Joseph Lanham congratulate Wells Fargo Volunteer Service Award winner Tiffany Cook on September 3.

Cook has served as a volunteer firefighter for the Ketchikan Volunteer Fire Department for three years. In 2012, she was named Ketchikan Fire Department Firefighter of the Year. She has completed 500 hours of training as a state-certified EMT-1 responder, exterior firefighter, and she is currently training to be a fire service instructor. Wells Fargo’s $1,000 Volunteer Service Award will fund local firefighter family support programs and community events.

In its 35th year, the Wells Fargo Volunteer Service Award program continues to recognize and reward team members’ volunteer efforts with contributions from Wells Fargo to the nonprofit or K-12 school where they volunteer. This year, 197 team members from around the world were awarded more than $500,000 to their organizations.

Wells Fargo team members are encouraged to nominate their co-workers or themselves to recognize the outstanding efforts of the volunteer and the nonprofit organization.  An internal selection committee chooses the winners, who are evaluated on the basis of their commitment to the organization, the effectiveness of their work, and the value of their work to their community.

Wells Fargo makes it easy for team members to get involved through the Wells Fargo Volunteers program. In 2012, Alaska team members reported 8,000 volunteer hours in their communities – a dollar value of $175,000. They served as mentors, board members, project heads, fundraisers, educators and more. Wells Fargo also invested $1.6 million in more than 300 nonprofits and schools in Alaska last year.
