(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - Glen Thompson, three term Assembly member for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, has filed a Letter of Intent with the Alaska Public Offices Commission to be a candidate in the 2014 State Primary election for the State House of Representatives seat currently held by Peggy Wilson of Wrangell.

In an email to SitNews, Thompson said, "I've considered running for a  couple of years but decided not to jump into the race last year because we had four pretty good candidates." He said,  "Now a year later, I decided that I can be a positive force for Ketchikan and southern Southeast.  I decided to enter the race now so that I will have enough time to put together a committee, do the necessary fund raising, and get out the vote."

Thompson has about nine years in local politics and is just finishing his 8th year in his third term on the local Assembly.  Thompson previously served on the Consolidation Commission and has several years involvement with local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, BPOE, and Friends of NRA, to list a few.

Thompson said, "I am pretty well versed on Ketchikan's issues and Southeast in general." He said he informally polled several individuals over the past several weeks and all were very encouraging and supportive.  "So I'm throwing my hat in the ring and giving folks another local choice to represent them.  The work starts today," said Thompson.

The 2014 State Primary election will take place on August 19, 2014.
