UAS Ketchikan Offering New Maritime
Industrial Skills Course

(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan is offering a new training course designed to prepare students for career opportunities in marine engineering departments, ship building and repair, heavy industrial machine repair, construction, and a variety of physical plant operations, such as seafood processing.
The course, Maritime Industrial Skills, will provide students with classroom and practical lab exercises and hands-on training with engines, electricity, welding, refrigeration, hydraulics, rigging, and firefighting plus other skills valuable to shipyards, seafood processor plants and other industries.
This course can also help participants be fully prepared to take the USCG exam for a Qualified Member of the Engine Department with Oiler and Fireman/Water Tender endorsements.
The first 12-week course will be September 30 through December 20, meeting Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days. Classes will be held at the UAS Ketchikan Technical Center, located at 600 Stedman Street. The cost of course is $2,945 and there are scholarships available.
