September 19, 2013
Participating agencies included Alaska U.S. Marshals, Homeland Security Investigations, Alaska State Troopers, Police Departments from Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka along with Department of Corrections-Probation/Parole. Law enforcement agencies participated in a comprehensive verification of currently registered sex-offenders. The goal was to ensure that the state’s sex-offenders are living and working where they are reporting and to gain compliance or arrest any that are not in compliance. The teams also focused their attention on arresting any violent fugitives living in the communities. Due to the experience and local knowledge of the state and local officers, the successful 5-day operation netted the following results:
In addition to the 5 arrested for failing to register as a sex-offender, the joint operation also arrested individuals for the following charges: 1 for probation violation, 1 for parole violation, 1 for hindering prosecution and drug charges, 1 for possession of child pornography, 1 for assault, 3 for drug charges and 1 who failed to appear on an assault case. Although this operation concluded on Saturday, September 14, 2013, the U.S. Marshals Service, along with state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state, will continue the efforts to protect the public from violent fugitives and non-compliant sex offenders on a daily basis.
