When Politicians Call

By Arnold Milton

When politicians ask for donations, I respond that they must first back school vouchers for children of all citizens, good as cash at any school, public or private. Also, they must back a simple consumption tax like the "Fair Tax". This response brings pause, because most want to first address their money problem.

But these are two key issues. We must educate our inner city children by giving them cash vouchers and the freedom to chose any school. Principals and teachers will move toward vouchers, form new schools, teach in converted buildings, and focus on education. Private school parents will no longer have to pay both public school taxes and private school tuition. Some States are making progress.

The "Fair Tax" brings quantum benefits by eliminating the income tax, the complex tax code, and the omnipresent IRS. These plagues upon our lives are manifested in a great loss of efficiency, and in frustration. We must tax consumption, not income, to stimulate saving, investment, and job creation. A Federal consumption tax is paid along with any State sales tax, at the point of sale. Please find a summary of the simple "Fair Tax" at FairTax.org
