Governor Announces Trip to Singapore and Korea to Market Alaska LNG
September 12, 2016
“As Alaska takes the lead in developing its North Slope natural gas, it is absolutely critical that we go to the global market and meet with prospective buyers,” said Governor Walker. “The Alaska LNG project would bring billions of dollars in new revenue to our state, provide affordable energy to Alaskans, and ensure a long-term supply of natural gas to Asian buyers. I am looking forward to the significant networking opportunities this trip will bring, and the chance to promote Alaska’s rich supply of natural gas to the world market.” While in Korea, Governor Walker and his team will meet with representatives from KOGAS, the largest single buyer of liquefied natural gas in the world. The group will also meet with officials from POSCO, GS Energy, the Korea Energy Economics Institute, the Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United States Ambassador to Korea, and others in an effort to promote the sale of Alaska’s North Slope natural gas. The CWC 8th World LNG Series: Asia Pacific Summit in Singapore brings together key LNG buyers and sellers in the region to network and learn about opportunities in the natural gas industry. Governor Walker will give a keynote address at the summit on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 to highlight Alaska’s abundant supply of natural gas. The Governor will be joined by Keith Meyer, President of the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation; John Hendrix, Chief Oil and Gas Advisor; and Andy Mack, Department of Natural Resources Commissioner. "It is important that the state and AGDC participate in strategic LNG conferences to market and promote Alaska's integrated gasline and LNG project,” said AGDC President Keith Meyer. “There are many global LNG projects vying for buyers’ attention. The competition is intense; Alaska needs to actively promote its benefits to secure its share of the global LNG market." Governor Walker’s trip to Korea is being hosted and paid for by the Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs. While traveling, the Governor and his team will provide regular video updates to Alaskans on the progress of their meetings. LNG stand for liquefied natural gas.
