Austin Otos for Ketchikan Borough AssemblyBy Matt EisenhowerSeptember 21, 2018
When I first met Austin, questions in my mind about age and experience initially led me to believe he was too young to serve. Our paths first crossed when I realized Austin was a contemporary and friend of my oldest son. This forced me to realize that my children’s contemporaries were now beginning to enter the political process. Since we have spent time together, I am excited to support Austin and his initiatives. The future of Ketchikan and the viability of this community is truly OURS…as much theirs as it is mine. The voices of this age group must be heard. Discussions related to priorities and other important decisions being made today for tomorrow’s Ketchikan would be incomplete without Austin’s thoughtful and inquisitive perspective. Decisions made today surrounding infrastructure, business climate, and public safety will impact Ketchikan residents for years to come. Ultimately, we should have the goal in this community to attract and maintain the youth of Ketchikan. If there is strong economy growing job opportunities and good quality of life, young people will stay and call it their forever home. This outcome should be the most important indicator of success. When one spends time with Austin, he makes you feel confident in the future of our community. His strong and thoughtful views on economic development, education, and housing are exactly what is needed. Matt Eisenhower
