Wednesday AM
I am writing to express my wholehearted support for three of the candidates in the upcoming local elections: Sonya Skan and Rachel Breithaupt, both running for the School Board, and Felix Wong, running for reelection to the Borough Assembly.
Our community needs to strike a balance whenever we select representatives for our local governments. We need bold leaders who are unafraid to speak their minds and who are willing to take action in times of crisis. However, we also need leaders who are compassionate and considerate listeners.
Recent history proves we need authentic leaders with maturity and life experience, as well as representatives with diverse and well-informed perspectives. We also need leaders who aren't so set in their ways that they believe they already have all the answers. Ketchikan deserves to have local governments who will look to the rest of us for ideas, rather than chasing failed crusades or standing by out-of-touch ideology.
Sonya Skan, Rachel Breithaupt, and Felix Wong all strike this balance. They are bold speakers, compassionate listeners, experienced leaders, and open-minded thinkers. For all these reasons and more, I strongly support their candidacies. I urge you to join me in voting on or before October 2nd for Sonya Skan and Rachel Breithaupt for School Board, and Felix Wong for Borough Assembly.
