Results of the Election were certified by the
Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly during the special meeting
Monday evening and are now official. With certification of the
results, Lybrand is now the official winner of one of two borough
assembly seats by 6 votes.
Ketchikan, AK - The Canvassing Board for the Ketchikan Gateway
Borough/City of Ketchikan Regular Election met this morning to
recount the votes cast for Borough Assembly Candidates Barbara
Bigelow and George Lybrand. Bigelow and Lybrand tied for an Assembly
seat in last week's Municipal Election with both unofficially
receiving 935 votes.

Today's hand recount of
3,399 votes was completed by Canvassing Board Members Karen Miles,
Joyce Hazlequist and Henry Keene in approximately three and one
half hours. After completing today's hand recount - which the
Canvassing Board was directed to do by the Ketchikan Gateway
Borough Assembly in a special meeting held last Thursday - the
Canvassing Board certified the recount results for the votes
cast in the Municipal Election held on October 7th for KGB Assembly
Candidates Lybrand and Bigelow as:
Barbara Bigelow 933
George Lybrand 939
In a special meeting scheduled
for this evening at 5:30 pm in the City Council Chambers, the
Borough Assembly will be presented the Canvass Board's report
of the recount of votes for Assembly Candidates George Lybrand
and Barbara Bigelow and the Assembly will consider certifying
and declaring the results of the regular election held on October
7, 2003.
