Open Letter to Rep. Young:
Save the US Merchant Marine
By Norbert Chaudhary
October 10, 2005
Monday PM
Dear Mr. Don Young,
My name is Norbert Chaudhary, I live in Ketchikan and am an American
Merchant Marine Officer. I will get right to the point. My
question to you is this. What or who compelled you to attach
an amendment to section 425 of H.R. 889?
What this does is outsource
American Seafaring jobs to Foreign workers!! YOU,
Mr. Young are the Congressman who sponsored this. So YOU are
now obligated to explain to the people of Alaska who YOU were
elected to represent,
just exactly how this benefits them.
While many of my fellow Alaskans are grateful to you for the
federal money you have managed to bring to our state, I am
a bit ashamed of this.
Pork spending is wasteful,
sinful and nothing to be proud of, but at the very least Americans
(Alaskans) were benefiting from this. I fail to see how any Alaskans
will benefit from the loss of yet more jobs to foreign workers.
This is what your amendment
to H.R. 889 will do. Out-Source American Seafaring Jobs to foreigners!!
This is another nail in the coffin of the U.S. Merchant Marine!.
It is bad enough that politics in our state and in our country
allow lobbyists and special interests to influence the elected
representatives of the people. It is outrageous that foreign
interests may now be doing the same. I remind you that while
those special interests may throw money your way, you were elected
by and are the representative of the People of the State of Alaska.
Please explain to them and to me your justification of this amendment.
Respectfully,
Norbert Chaudhary
