Ketchikan City Council:
In a recent Sitnews' Letter, Mr. Don Hoff Jr. presents a interesting
question on the cruise ship dock issue. He claims
that even after Ketchikan voters expressed a firm NO to funds
for expanding cruise ship docks, the City Council/City Manager
are in fact saying "We are going to do it anyway."
Is any city money being used to fund this new "project"
to expand cruise ship docks? Please answer this question.
It appears clear to me that no public funds should be allocated
in this way as the result of the public vote.
Certainly funds are needed to provide necessary maintenance and
repairs to the existing dock facilities. Health and safety
issues are also a concern. These matters, however, differ
from projects and public spending for dock expansion. If
funds are being used for expansion, I believe Mr. Hoff is right
and the City Council/City Manager should be sued for failing
to comply with the wishes of concerned voters and taxpayers.
Sincerely,
Robert D. Warner
