In 1983, Studds admitted to having sexual relations with a 17-year-old male page. Studds was not just communicating with the boy, but involved in a sexual affair. The way Studds handled his own scandal -- and the consequences he faced afterward -- were very different from what Foley has already faced. Both men were involved in disgustingly serious acts, yet both did not suffer the same fate. Studds, who is openly gay, told his constituents that the relationship was consensual and charged that the investigation by the House Ethics Committee raised fundamental questions of privacy. In spite of the news coverage of his homosexual affair with a teenager, he won re-election the following year and served in the House until his retirement in 1996.. Folley resigned in disgrace while none of the Democrats incolved in similar activities offered to do so. Are Democrats allowed to be
gay House page harassers but not Republicans? House Democratic
Leader Nancy Pelosi is one of the toughest critics of Folley
yet her San Francisco constituents are the most Gay people in
the world and they most certainly believe that people over the
age of consent are "fair game". Does Ms Pelosi want
to outlaw all homosexual activity or allow it only for Democrats
where it is certainly more popular based on that party's support
of Gay marriage and other Gay causes.
