Ketchikan Detention Home

Bring back the Ketchikan Detention Home or what we called DH
in the old days was my or our deterrent for getting in any trouble
in Ketchikan, Alaska because we didn t want to end up at the
DH. The Detention Home was right next to the Walker Baseball
Field and the old City Water Works on Park Ave.
The problem in Ketchikan for young teenager boys and girls getting
in trouble is there is no place for them to be incarcerated for
short periods of time for their crimes. Ketchikan needs to bring
back the DH with cells, jump suits, barb wire fences and jailers.
The City of Ketchikan and State of Alaska should give the young
teenagers the real taste of their future if they don't change
their ways. I know it works young teenagers are savvy to the
Local, State and even Federal laws and know nothing is going
to happen to them if they break laws and being under aged.
Instead of your Local Government Officials wasting your tax dollars
on bridges, docks, and old schools, they should consider building
a Detention Center for Ketchikan and also could serve Metlakatla,
Craig and Klawock? It would create year around local jobs.
In closing, I just remember growing up in the early 60's that
I didn t want anything to do with the DH and remain a law abiding
young citizen in Ketchikan. This is my opinion.
