The agreement between DOT&PF and AIDEA allows expansion opportunities for AIDEA’s Alaska Ship and Drydock operations in Ketchikan. DOT&PF will retain the use of property it needs most, including the South Berth’s floating dock for vessel repair and maintenance, warehouse and offices until DOT&PF’s new base of operations is established in Ward Cove. DOT&PF purchased 30 acres of property at Ward Cove this summer for use by the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS). In addition to its plan to consolidate its main warehouses at the Ward Cove location, the AMHS will soon begin the process of choosing a location on the property where it will begin designing a new headquarters building.
