Vote to Re-Elect Sen. Mark Begich

By Bill Williams

To the Editor:

As a Republican and ex-Legislator representing Ketchikan and Saxman, I’m voting for Senator Mark Begich.

I have watched him during the past 6 years, and have seen him work with his colleagues to deliver results- always with Alaskans in mind. Mark Begich knows healthy communities need healthy economies, and that we need good jobs. That’s why he supports resource development, including timber, mining, and hydropower, and has been a strong voice for our fishing and tourism industries.

Mark Begich knows the Marine Highway System is our highway, and has helped keep federal transportation funds allocated for ferries. He is a strong supporter of our shipyard, and for years has supported building the new Alaska ferries right here- with Alaskan workers. I especially appreciate his efforts to improve medical care for veterans, including his efforts to give veterans an option for local care in communities without VA facilities.

Finally, as a member of the Alaska Native Brotherhood, I strongly support Senator Begich’s work for Alaska Natives, including improving access to health services and fighting to protect Saxman’s rural status for subsistence. His record in support of Alaska Natives was recently recognized when, after listening to both candidates in Petersburg, the ANB/ANS Grand Camp endorsed Mark Begich for U.S. Senator.

Please join me and vote to re-elect Senator Mark Begich.

Sincerely,

Bill Williams
Ketchikan, Alaska
