Chere Klein for State House By Elijah Verhagen October 23, 2014
Chere is a lifelong Ketchikan resident who truly loves her town. I met Chere in January of 2013, in Representative Peggy Wilson's office in Juneau. My first impression of Chere was someone who didn't belong in politics because she was so nice. But then, isn't that who we want? We have enough loud, arrogant, ignorant politicians and Chere is anything but one of them. As I got to know her as a co-worker and friend I learned how much she knew about the entire district and realized she is nice but she has an iron will and an amazing amount of knowledge. Her love and passion for her town was inspiring. Every constituent that came into the office she knew and could make them feel comfortable. She caught on quickly to the process and is a great learner. It is essential for any state representative to have knowledge of the legislative process if they are going to be effective. I have helped with campaigns for years and have worked at the Legislature in Juneau during the past four years and have witnessed time and again representatives that get elected without knowing how to get things done for their constituents. They spend their first year learning everything that Chere already knows and then their second year (when they finally get the hang of things), they are voted out because they didn't do anything for their people. Chere is strong willed, has great ideas and will not be bought or pushed around. Chere is also very dedicated and works hard. There were four of us in the office and we would all rotate for lunch breaks only to come back and find that Chere never left her desk; she wanted to learn and understand everything. She would go beyond the mark to fulfill her responsibilities and motivated the rest of us to do our best as well. I know she will continue to do this as Ketchikan's state representative. She and her husband own businesses that operate throughout District 36. They are fully invested in the district's interests, especially the most precious resources namely: Ketchikan's residents.
