Dan Ortiz: Leadership By David Mitchel October 27, 2014
Dan Ortiz has taught advanced placement economics to students who start businesses in Ketchikan and head to elite colleges and for over 20 years. His opponent has mischaracterized his views on economics. Dan understands the importance of balancing taxes and efficient government services, and this highlights the problem with the current political climate and Mrs. Klein’s misguided and over-simplistic political instincts. We need to elect people who are willing to find common ground, who are willing to listen to both sides of complex issues and make reasoned and fact-based decisions on what is best for our community. Dan Ortiz has been a selfless public servant and a strong advocate for education his entire life. He also has the full Alaska breadth of experience working for the pulp mill, cruise line agencies, small floatplane companies, commercial fishing and volunteer organizations. Dan is excellent at asking the tough questions, keeping an open mind, analyzing both sides of the argument, and then bringing a strong voice to the table as an excellent communicator. We are lucky to have Senator Stedman helping to build the infrastructure in our region and sensibly addressing Statewide legislation. However, Peggy Wilson and her staff, including Chere Klein, had little impact in Juneau and were not successful in passing their signature transportation legislation. I would rather send a leader to Juneau like Dan Ortiz, who is intelligent, hard-working and can communicate the needs of our communities. Listen to the forum between the two candidates (http://www.krbd.org/2014/10/21/house-district-36-candidates-square-off/) and ask yourself who better understands the issues, who can better communicate, and who will be an effective leader representing our communities in the State Legislature? Vote for Dan Ortiz. David Mitchel Received October 27, 2014 - Published October 27, 2014
