Vote for Ortiz By Judity McQuerry October 27, 2014
Dan taught in our school district for decades and has a deep understanding of the challenges facing Southeast Alaska communities and families. He shared, with all of us, the closing of the timber industry. He knows we need sustainable industries like fishing and sound mining. He won’t trade one for the other and will ensure both are done carefully knowing we need not only industries for ourselves but for our children and grandchildren. As a teacher and coach, Dan worked with kids and families in all kinds of circumstances. Some were hard to reach, communication was difficult and conveying necessary information had to be accomplished no matter what. Communicating the needs and priorities of Southern Southeast Alaska with the legislators of the rail belt will require all the skills and determination Dan has been practicing for so long. I have known Dan for many years always finding him approachable and easy to talk to. He listens carefully, considers options, and truly cares what people have to say. Sincerely, Judith McQuerry
