Bob Sivertson for State HouseBy Tuckerman Babcock October 18, 2016
The Alaska Republican Party stands in support of the positive change offered by Bob Sivertson for State House. It takes a tough negotiator to protect local interests, and it takes someone who knows how to work most productively with other legislators from the area. There is no doubt that Bob Sivertson and Bert Stedman will make a powerful positive team for District 36. Reading the letter from Mr. Ortiz one might conclude that during his one term in Juneau he held his ground and made choices as an "independent" member of the House. He did not. It is not particularly "negative" to simply state the fact that when he got to Juneau he joined the Democrat minority caucus. It is not "a smear" to state the fact that Mr. Ortiz was a lockstep supporter of the Democrats on every major vote in Juneau. He could have chosen to be truly "Independent", always voting his conscience, always voting for his District, but what he actually did was always vote as a Democrat. We are not sure why some consider that statement "negative campaigning", it is simply the choice he made after he was elected. We know many proud Democrats who are not ashamed of their party. I have a beloved younger sister who is a passionate Democrat (she lives in Massachusetts). We encourage everyone to consider the platforms, the record, and the qualifications of every candidate. We are certainly impressed by Bob Sivertsen and his very positive agenda.
