No to SivertsenBy Douglas Thompson October 19, 2016
If I got it wrong I would sure like to hear Bob Sivertsen tell me how he is going to protect the Permanent Fund Dividend. In his previous Sitnews announcement he stated that he wanted to join the Republicans in Juneau. The Republicans are headed by Governor Walker. They want to take our PFD and have already grabbed half of this year's. The plan as it stands is to take it all and give it to the oil companies. In short to pay them back every cent they have paid in taxes since the sixties and then some. You will get to pay taxes to make this happen. I would sure like to hear from anybody in Ketchikan of any party why they would vote for a candidate like Bob Sivertsen when he has said he wants to join these people whose goal is to take a lot of money out of our pockets for nothing in return. Jay Hammond and Oral Freeman must be thrashing in their graves. Both warned of the danger of politicians getting their hands on the fund. Walker and his Republicans represent Anchorage and the railbelt to the exclusion of the rest of the State. When you pay your sales tax remember that Anchorage pays none as their city projects in large part are funded from the State treasury (they have the votes). Now we are to be deprived of our PFD at their behest. The oil companies of course wish to see Bob elected and judging by the amount of advertising he is doing I would guess they are heavy contributors to his campaign as he is promising to be "their man" bought and sold. Judging from his record of fiscal irresponsibility in city government this is downright scary. So bottom line: Are Ketchikan voters so stupid as to vote against their own interests? Come November 8 th we will see. Sincerely, Douglas Thompson Received October 18, 2016 - Published October 19, 2016 Related Announcement:
