Shelley Kerber, enrolled in the Health Information Management program at the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus, received a check that will help her to continue her studies full time while working part time at KGH. Shelley has six years of experience in a health care environment, and has also pursued a demanding career in the US Army, deployed in Bosnia. Her goal now is to pursue credentialing as a Registered Health Information Technician. "I know I function well in this kind of environment, and the outlook for jobs in this field is strong," Kerber stated. A second scholarship recipient is Brooke Orr, a graduate of Ketchikan High School, and currently enrolled in the nursing program at Hawaii Community College-West Hawaii, in the RN program. Orr states, "As far back as I can remember, I have always desired to become a nurse. My aunt, Kathie Glover, an LPN for 26 years, has inspired my dream" Glover is an employee of KGH. Orr took every opportunity
while growing up to explore the field of nursing, volunteering
at the Pioneers Home, Cancer Auction, and enrolling in the Kayhi
Vocational Medical Science class which enabled her to job-shadow
at KGH. Following high school she became a Certified Nurse Aide,
and an assistant instructor in CPR courses.
