Let's make a Deal
By Rodney Dial

Monday
We have been watching with interest the Pro-Consolidation ads
by big business (AKA The Landing, Kay Sims & Terry Wanzer),
and by the Chamber of Commerce.
Apparently the Chamber thinks all those who have voted consolidation
down many times in the past, and those who oppose it now are
a bunch of Chicken Littles. Hmm . let's see, insult the public
and present ads with no substance, and then expect people to
vote your way. Great idea, please continue.
To the Landing / Sims, Wanzer: I will assume that both of you
are people of high integrity and conviction. Further, that you
fully believe in the ads you are putting before the public.
Assuming such, you should have no problem with the following
contract with the people of Ketchikan.
If consolidation passes, and causes Government spending to increase
as us Chicken Littles have been saying, then we get to balance
the budget by raising the bed tax.
Are you OK? Because it sounded like someone just fell out of
their chair ..
If we are not able to raise the bed tax high enough to pay for
consolidation we could always do what the Consolidated Government
of Sitka did and Tax Business Inventory? What do you say Chamber?
Be careful what you wish for.
If you haven't voted yet, please do so tomorrow, and please consider
voting No Consolidation. We need every vote.
Happy Holidays
