Middle of Winter - Newtown
Parking still an issue!

It's the MIDDLE OF WINTER with NO cruise ships . . . and the
community is even now concerned about parking in the Newtown
neighborhood. The following excerpt comes from this week's Chamber
of Commerce notice of their noon meeting at the Senior Services
Center on Water Street.
"Greetings Chamber Members & Associates Just a reminder
regarding Chamber lunch location tomorrow. Parking is available
in the Schoenbar lot above the 49 er; also, Jud s office supply
has generously offered overflow parking in their spaces next
to Murray Pacific as well as Taquan Air across the street."
By the way, it looked like everyone found a place when I drove
by. But would I be able to say the same during tourist season?
NO WAY!
The commercial and residential property owners of the Newtown
area are not getting a fair shake under this berth development
project. Without a well developed and funded plan to assure
parking to accomodate the increased need we'll all be walking
just so we can be assured of a place to park our vehicles. It's
not too late to think ahead.
