No Bridge in Ketchikan
By Don Hoff Jr.

Forrest, it doesn't matter where I am living to debate the bridge to no-where . You expect the American tax payers to spend $340 million dollars on a bridge for 50 residents that live on Gravina Island. If you want to create economic development for Ketchikan, build a bridge to Hyder, Alaska to access the lower 48. There are only a few people pushing this bridge to Gravina Island via Pennock Island. It is the biggest waste of tax payer's money it is criminal in my opinion. The millions of dollars wasted already through planning and lobbying.

I am biased when it causes further encroachment on our Native grave sites on Pennock Island and wasting my hard earned tax dollars on a worthless project as a boon-doggle bridge. It is as worthless as a tunnel you can drive around or building new docks for the tourist industry at tax payer s expense.

It wasn't the environmentalists or O.S.H.A that shut the Pulp Mill down in Ketchikan. The Mill didn't have to close; the Mill chose to close. Be honest, the Pulp Mill was a polluter. Fish are still floating belly up in Ward Cove. The Pulp Mill was full of asbestos causing health problems with former employees. Lastly, The Pulp Mill had to start paying for the logs were their deciding factor. The Pulp Mill raped and butchers the landscape for all it was worth and then left hard working folks out of a job. All our natural resources; oil, timber, fish and minerals are being depleted because of greed and bad management.

In closing, Ketchikan does not need a bridge so a few rich people can get to their properties on Pennock Island and Gravina Island or for land speculators to develop or for the termite people to get to our old growth timber. It is just a scam and con job on you and the American tax payer. This is only my opinion.
