Ketchikan Skiing History

I'm contacting SitNews in regards to a Ketchikan Skiing Viewpoint
letter Pete Ellis had published recently. Pete mentioned old
ski areas at Deer Mountain and Lake Perseverance. I'm wondering
if any SitNews readers could possibly answer a couple of questions
about these old ski areas for me.
Why am I asking? I maintain a historical web site called the
Alaska Lost Ski Areas Project (www.alsap.org).
Over the past several years my partner in this project, Dave
Brann of Homer, and I have collected information on 133 lost
skiing sites. These are places where people used to ski regularly,
but no longer ski there or only rarely. This is a hobby and labor
of love web site, by skiers for skiers. We do this at our own
expense to save the skiing history of Alaska for all to see,
for free.
Recently I added the Deer Mountain and Lake Perseverance skiing
sites to this ski history web site. You can see what information
I added for these ski areas if you get a chance to look at this
web site.
What I would be interested in finding out about these sites is
- when were they in operation? It sounds like homesteaders were
involved with the lodge on Deer Mountain. So would that have
been in the 1930's? And I'm wondering what the dates of operation
for the Lake Perseverance rope tow would have been?
Also, I'm wondering if there are any folks out there that might
have old pictures of skiing at Deer Mountain, Lake Perseverance,
Ski Corner or Harriet Hunt that they might like to share with
our skiing history web site?
I appreciate any information folks may be able to offer. Thank
you.
