Focused Anti- DUI Campaign Patrols Underway
November 23, 2011
Wednesday
(SitNews) Anchorage, Alaska - The Anti-DUI enforcement effort by the Alaska State Troopers and local law enforcement agencies for the Thanksgiving holiday is more than halfway complete. The enhanced patrols will continue through November 27th. The Alaska State Troopers and local law enforcement agencies are encouraging motorists to continue making smart choices when getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.
Regardless of what your ultimate plans are for Thanksgiving, Troopers encourage you to always practice safe driving behaviors on the roads while traveling to and from your destination. If you consume drugs or alcohol, plan to either stay the night or to have a sober driver in charge of operating your vehicle. Always have a plan to celebrate safely and responsibly.
From the beginning of the campaign through Nov. 21st, the following has occurred statewide:
- 21 DUI arrests
- 23 Drivers charged with Driving With License Suspended/Revoked
- 12 Additional Drivers contacted who were reported as REDDI reports and ultimately determined not to be DUI
- 4 MVCs responded to, none of which resulted in serious injury or fatality
- 308 Citations issued, of those, 98 were issued for speeding and 6 were issued for seatbelt or other occupant restraint violations
Troopers also encourage everyone to Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately by calling 9-1-1.
Funding for the focused enforcement was provided in part by grant sources distributed through the Alaska Highway Safety Office.
