Re: No More Traditional Paper Marine Charts

Paper copies of charts will still be available as POD (print on demand) and from NOAA-certified third parties (complete with updates!). NOAA is ending production of the traditional litho versions because they have declined in popularity as more convenient options (for hard-copy as well as digital) have emerged.

While ECDIS (electronic chart display and information system) may meet the CFR requirement of having current charts on a vessel, prudent mariners should *always* have an up-to-date paper chart on board as back-up. That will not change any time in the near future, even if the type of paper chart does.
