Open Letter: Obamacare - NOT AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE ACT By Laura Plenert November 13, 2013
I am a normal, average, healthy American/Alaskan. I have paid for my own Health Insurance for the past 4 years as a conscience choice. It has gone up incrementally each year with NO changes in coverage. I CHOSE the plan, it suited me had everything I wanted/needed, it was affordable and it met my needs (I DO NOT NEED OR WANT PRENATAL OR CHILDBIRTH COVERAGE AND DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING I WILL NEVER USE). Thanks to the affordable care act, my premiums are going to go up significantly (my health insurance premium will be higher than my HOUSE PAYMENT). My premiums and deductible are each increasing by 25%. AND NO I DO NOT WANT A SUBSIDY THAT WILL NOT FIX THIS DEBACLE. I am an American. I love freedom. This is absolutely WRONG what is happening to our health care coverage. I DO NOT NEED ANYONE IN THE GOVERNMENT TAKING CARE OF ME OR DICTATING TO ME WHAT IS BEST FOR ME. As a reference point I am a single middle age woman (55). I have retired from a career but continue to work - by my CHOICE - in a job that I love. I knew that after leaving the corporate world, it would be up to me to provide for my health care. I have paid my way all of my life. I made choices with my eyes wide open and with a plan. A plan that included continuing to take care of myself and to buy health insurance that was RIGHT for me. WHO IS THE GOVERNMENT TO PRESUME THAT THEY KNOW WHAT IS BEST OR RIGHT FOR ME???????????? I implore each of you to do what is right and FIX THIS MESS. How can any of you reasonably destroy this chosen type of lifestyle???? Freedom of choice is American. Freedom of choice is Alaskan. I m not asking for government assistance quite the opposite. I want each of you to stand up and get government out of MY life and every other successful, FREE American. It is time to put personal ambitions aside and stand up for what is right. I believe that each of you knows what is right. I am hopeful that each of you are in tune enough with your constituents to know that NO GOVERNMENT should DICTATE to it s citizens. We are going down a very dangerous path and each of you has the opportunity to put America back on the right course.
