The New Rain Gauge By Pamela Davies November 25, 2013
Well, such an expensive rain gauge seems necessary to some. But why would you outsource the work? To a Dutch artist willing to make the piece of work for over $90 thousand! I bet the artist has never even been to Alaska. If you are so proud of the city and its annual rainfall, why not get a local to make the piece? Or a local group? Or better yet, make a contest of it. High school, city wide, however you would like. I would not show pride in something so expensive, that is more of a want than a need, no matter where the money comes from. I teach my children to use art to express themselves, and most importantly, to re-purpose and re-use the things around them and things that inspire them. Support your neighbors and locals, and keep a watchful eye on your elected officials voting in such an extravagant item that some support, but believe me, I do not.
