Dock Bong By A. M. Johnson November 30, 2013
To the "unwashed" who are offering disparaging remarks towards the efforts of rejuvenating the crude, weathered, simple rain gauge that has survived many years of weather torture. It is "Free Money", as such let us not "Bully" the Arts and Craft community with negativity. Ketchikan MUST enter the 21 Century, what better way than to depict the new generational acceptance of marijuana. Who better to be involved than the Dutch, leaders in public pornography, prostitution, and drug use?. Who better to provoke a public display that depicts a giant "Bong" on the water front of Ketchikan? In my humble opinion here are three items of interest on display with this decision. 1. Local Arts and Crafts are not able to accomplish to this level of artistic display, which disappoints me reading of the purported economics of have a healthy Arts and Craft monetary contribution, particularly at local governmental budget recitals. or more it is a slap in the face to the local Chamber of Commerce, currently on a "Buy Local" trend. 2. Somebody who draws water among the local Arts and Crafts had the influence to push this concept on to and through the full Arts and Crafts body because they had taken a trip to the Netherlands and think "Sharing that Experience" is a ticket to being a "Noted" Local. 3. It was a bet between two local Arts and Crafts members as to the ability to demonstrate the low level of common sense that they perceived resides in Ketchikan. Not having a dog in this fight allows the observation that the finished product so open in design, will NOT cover the accused open vent pipe, it will actually draw attention to the drain pipe. Perhaps placing the proposed "Bong" in front of the vent pipe will complement the concept and mental vision of two forms of smoking. Sit back, relax, and take a "Hit".
