Alaska Libraries Named Star Libraries

(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - Library Journal has named eight Alaska libraries among the list of America’s Star Libraries, 2014: Top Rated Libraries. And, of those 8, three are located in Souteast Alaska.
Alaska's Star Libraries are: Craig Public Library; Haines Borough Public Library; Petersburg Public Library; Delta Community Library, Delta Junction; Unalaska Public Library; Homer Public Library; Seward Community Library Museum; and Tri-Valley Community Library, Healy.
The Library Journal Index, sponsored by Baker & Taylor’s Bibliostat, is a measurement tool that compares U.S. public libraries with their spending peers based on four types of output measures of their per capita use which include: 1) ibrary visits,2) circulation, 3) program attendance, and 4) public Internet computer use.
The Library Journal Index scores measure the levels of library service delivery relative to peer libraries nationally. It should be noted, scores do not indicate the quality, effectiveness, or value of library services, nor whether the quantities of services provided sufficiently address a community's needs.
