(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - The ramp accessing the Naha River National Recreation trail, roughly 15 miles north of Ketchikan, sustained significant damage during a windstorm earlier this month.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the ramp was removed for safety. The boat dock remains in place but there is no access from the dock to shore. There are also multiple trees down across approximately the first mile of trail.

Due to limited recreation budgets, the Ketchikan Misty Fiords Ranger District does not have a repair date estimate for the ramp at this time. In addition, reduced staffing levels during the winter as well as limited daylight hours will make it difficult to get the trail cleared of downed trees.

The Forest Service is advising visitors to use caution if accessing the area by alternate means.

The Forest Service also announced the closure of The Eagles Nest Campground on Prince of Wales for the winter. The campground is closed becasue it is not plowed, outhouses are not maintained, and garbage will not be collected. Camping reservations for The Eagles Nest Campground may be made for the 2015 season starting May 7, 2015 at http://www.reserveamerica.com.
