With nearly 150 dues-paying Skipper Members, over 75 dues-paying Business Members, and representing approximately 1,500 captains and crewmembers, the Board of the Southeast Alaska Seiners Association has unanimously endorsed the re-election of Mark Begich for U.S. Senate. Senator Begich’s tireless work on behalf of the fishing men and women of Southeast Alaska, and the families they represent, has not gone unnoticed and SEAS wholeheartedly backs his return to Washington D.C. to continue the good work he has begun.
Knowing the significance of maintaining sustainable wild salmon runs throughout Southeast and the State of Alaska, Senator Begich wisely sought and attained the chairmanship of the Commerce Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard. His commitment to regional fishery councils, treaty commissions, and the best science-based methods of management are commendable and SEAS appreciates his work of supporting good paying jobs and the long-term sustainability of the wild salmon resource.
Working behind the scenes on a variety of important fishing issues and as an active member of the important Appropriations Committee, Senator Begich has done an outstanding job during his first term in the U.S. Senate. His leadership and commitment to the fishing families and communities of Southeast Alaska are the reason this organization enthusiastically supports his return to the Senate.
