Response to Rep. Stutes' LetterBy Susan Dotson

In response to the letter by Rep. Louise Stutes on Nov. 3rd. As the Speaker of the Alaska House, you forgot to say you head up the Democrat binding caucus, which you and one other Republican created with the Democrats after Alaskans voted in a Republican majority. One of the Republicans joining you was censured by her District for joining you, which Dan Ortiz belongs to also. Louise Stutes states in her letter she and Dan Ortiz fight against special interests. Still, it is a known fact that every year the same special interests and unions you claim to fight against are sending letters to you and every Legislator in the House and Senate demanding that a full PFD not be paid to Alaskans. The full statutory PFD has not been paid for six years because of special interest groups and your leadership in the House. The same special interest groups donate to your and Dan Ortiz's campaigns. A simple search of APOC Campaign Disclosure will show this. Could it be that Louise Stutes wrote this letter in support of Dan Ortiz because, at the Bynum/Ortiz debate on Oct. 13, Jermey Bynum stated he would not join a binding caucus and sell his vote in his answer to my question about the binding caucus at the debate on Oct. 13? I was surprised Dan Ortiz admitted he did belong to it. How can Dan Ortiz be a fierce and effective advocate for his constituents when he pledges his vote to Rep. Louise Stutes, the Speaker of the House, and to be in the binding caucus to keep his committee seats? Pay close attention to what a politician says - and - does. Their positions on the PFD, a binding caucus, a constitutional spending cap, and other issues matter more than you may realize. Policies they support or oppose directly affect your wallet, economy, job, and more. My family votes are for Jermy Bynum, who will not join a binding caucus and will work hard for his constituents here in District 1. Keeping legislators free to vote however they think best on every issue for their constituents is a crucial tenet of public service. Susan Dotson
