You may or may not need a building
permit for repair of rot depending on the severity of structural
damange. Unless you can visually identifiy the the extent of
decay, and recognize the reason for failure, it is difficult
to ascertain the correct remediation. I have seen repairs made
in the same manner in which the faulty construction practices
were duplicated, and will most likely cause the same problem
again. It is best to call the building department at 228-4737
and discuss the project with me, and possibly set up a pre-inspection
if warranted. Ideas can be exchanged on procedures to correct
the problem, and a decision can be made as to whether a building
