State Announces New E-Travel Initiative

December 09, 2004
Thursday

Ray Matiashowski, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Administration, announced Wednesday that the State of Alaska is implementing a new approach to managing state-funded travel. Matiashowski indicated the E-Travel Initiative would start with Medicaid recipients and then expand to all departments within the State of Alaska later in the spring.

Beginning January 1, 2005, Medicaid travel will be booked through a centralized state travel office, which is staffed with professional travel agents from U.S. Travel under contract with the State of Alaska, according to Matiashowski.

U.S. Travel is headquartered in Anchorage and has been dedicated to full service corporate and leisure travel management since 1978. They will provide the professional staff to fill the slots in the state travel office in Juneau.

Sunny Israelson, the state travel manager, will be responsible for managing the contract according to Matiashowski.

Beginning January 1, 2005 pre-authorized Medicaid travel can be booked by calling 1-800-514-7123.
