Ketchikan's high gas prices
By Jon Van Essen

Saturday
After returning from a week of work in Homer, with stops in Kenai,
Anchorage, and Juneau, I find it interesting that here in Ketchikan
the price of gas has not dropped from $3.07 a gallon for a few
months now, more than enough time for a few barges of cheaper
fuel to be unloaded. Apparently Juneau must get a different barge
than us since the price of gas at The Safeway on Eagan Dr. in
Juneau is $2.79 a gallon. Other prices from around the State.
Homer $2.65, Kenai, $2.57, Anchorage $2.39 Glenallen $2.85. I
was in Tok earlier this fall and paid $2.82 a gallon.
I wonder if the City and Borough
would entertain the thought of dropping the sales tax on gas
to help off set the high prices we pay compared to the rest of
the state?
