Apology owed to NTVFD

After reading the article in the Daily News Friday morning concerning,
North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department's request for the surplus
pedestrian ramp, I feel compelled to respond to Mr. Freeman's
comment that he doesn't owe the North Tongass Volunteer Fire
Department anything. I agree with Mr. Freeman he does not owe
the NTVFD department anything; however, I think he should not
blatantly disregard the department, and in essence its members,
that has rendered its services as a volunteer fire department
to aide the City Fire Department in fighting seven fires, within
the city limits since its conception.
I find it reprehensible that
a city council member is of the belief that the fire departments
on this island are only tied to the city or the borough not the
community. I am however elated that the members of this department
do not share Mr. Freeman's opinion and are willing to respond
to any emergency anytime anywhere they are needed.
As a volunteer I am personally
insulted and on second thought now recant my initial comment
that Mr. Freeman doesn't owe the NTVFD anything - because Mr.
Freeman does in fact owe NTVFD something; an apology!
