The Patriot Flag Coming to Ketchikan December 23rdDecember 17, 2010
On December 23rd, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, The Patriot Flag will fly near Ketchikan Fire Station #2 (3352 Tongass Avenue), weather permitting. This 30 x 58 foot commemorative, 60-pound commemorative flag’s journey began on September 10th, 2010 in San Diego, California. It will fly in all 50 states in 50 weeks before it flies over Manhattan, New York; Washington, DC; and Shanksville, Pennsylvania on the Tenth Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93. The Patriot Flag will begin its Alaskan Tour on December 21st in Anchorage. On December 22nd it stops in Kotzebue, with stops in Ketchikan (December 23rd) and Juneau on December 24th . On December 25th the Fairbanks Fire Department and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Fire Department will fly the flag. The Patriot Flag will also fly over Santa's House, courtesy of the North Pole Fire Department on December 25th. From there The Flag will be transported to Oregon by Alaska Airlines where it will fly over the Hillsboro Fire Department on December 27th The Flag will be shipped by FedEx as a major sponsor of this project at no cost and Alaska Airlines is working with Patriot Flag sponsors to make sure the flag is delivered on schedule to all Alaskan and Northwest destinations. Gerry Castle of Castle Trucking in Ketchikan is working with the Ketchikan Fire Department on plans to display the Flag. Jodie Hettrick, Fire Training Administrator for the Alaska Division of Fire and Life Safety is coordinating the events for the State of Alaska.
