Glen Thompson Officially Terminates Campaign
December 30, 2013
Thompson stated that, “After considerable reflection upon my existing personal commitments to work, family, and the community, plus the added sacrifices that come with a campaign for higher public office, it does not make sense for me to continue to pursue election to state office at this time. My analysis of preliminary campaign efforts makes it clear that the financial sacrifice and time commitment is not workable at this time in my life. I have decided that I can be more effective continuing my role in local politics while pursuing my livelihood. Also, suspending the campaign now rather than later, should offer the opportunity to others who have stayed out of the race so far, but may now wish to campaign, sufficient time to do so.” Thompson said he intends to faithfully serve the remainder of his third term on the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly. A three term Assembly member for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Thompson filed his Letter of Intent with the Alaska Public Offices Commission to be a candidate in the 2014 State Primary election for the State House of Representatives in September 2013. Thompson has approximately nine years in local politics and is just finishing his 8th year in his third term on the Ketchikan BoroughAssembly. Thompson previously served on the Consolidation Commission and has several years involvement with local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, BPOE, and Friends of NRA, to list a few. Thompson extended his sincere thanks to those friends and family who have helped out in the initial effort to date.
